Obama is cool.

Barack Obama Men's Vogue Cover Sept. 2006

Obama, tailored for the new America

I’m taking you outside of policy and politics to explore how Obama’s ‘cool’ transcends them both.  Fellas’ take off your Allen Edmonds and put on some Ferragamos; Ladies take off your Chanel pumps and put on some Louboutins’. Let’s take a journey into Obama’s ‘cool’…

Cuff-link #1:

Obama is cool, because of his story. He is a biracial (black in most political/social senses) product of a single family home, who rose above circumstance to put himself through an Ivy League education at Harvard Law School. Once he graduated, he chose community organizing over high-end law work and convinced  his wife (didn’t take much work), a high-end lawyer, to galvanize behind his civic calling. His unrelenting pursuit of higher ideals and triumphs of common challenges resonate with voters across political affiliations, age and class boundaries. The national environment, in the midst of one of the most turbulent economic and social times in recent decades, is primed for a candidate that offers real-time solutions. Who better to understand the climate of this time than one who has weathered it himself (in a Burberry trench) and always remained cool?

Cuff-link #2:

Obama is already cool, but McCain makes him look even cooler. Let’s break down a few stats:

  • Obama is 6’1/2 at 190 lbs. McCain is 5’7 at 165 lbs.
  • Obama is THE global pop culture icon, there is only room for one favorite (check the magazine/newspaper covers)…
  • Obama is actually a good-looking guy, McCain’s wife isn’t too hard on the eyes
  • Obama is 47, McCain is 72
  • Obama makes “The Dream” tangible

Cuff-link #3:

Obama is not the “black “candidate. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have been at the forefront of several dynamic civil and human rights initiatives, especially those relating to African Americans, but were branded too exclusively with race or identity. This prevented them from being relational to key demographic groups needed to undertake candidacy. As evidenced in their unsuccessful president campaigns, the Rev’s couldn’t run (for president at least). However, they did pass the baton to the candidate poised to sew the fabric of the new America. The Obama cool, is a power that transcends previously divisive color lines to be one of the most unifying forces in modern culture. He takes the same values he shares with his predecessors and makes them palatable to a larger and more diverse audience.

My insights focus on Obama’s cool, so this entry is in no way created to slight his positions on policy and politics. This entry was designed to explore the factors that tailor his brand for permanent fashionability. I’d love to hear your remarks.

Fashionably,

I love Obama’s cool, and I love your take on it.

    Keep Branding!

  2. I’ve been screaming CUFF LINK 3 from the mountain tops for a while now…although i do think the “Revs” are still grossly jealous of Mr. (President) Obama…

Obama is so beyond cool to me….I can not even explain. The thought of him makes me have an outstanding feeling of pride and inner joy, and hope. What he has given to us is someting your generation and mine have neer actually felt but always wanted to understand better, since we were not around during the civil rights movement.

Now, his fashion was lacking at the beginning, his hair cut was bad and his suites were not fitting the way they should have been. But then I realised he had to take it slow on the nation. He has gotten much better, but the Vogue cover is not his personal style he was dressed for that.

But of course his swagger is extremely cool, I love the fact that he is a BLACK man, you cal tell all the way.

  4. Obama’s cool! He’s not only cool, but his sincerity and background seems to me has been tailor-made for such a position. It’s amazing how at the time his ciciv duties may have seemed minimal to some but stand as the very foundation for his candidacy.

I guess that’s one of those occurrences where you pay a lot of dues in the beginning and in the end your travels take you some place that you only imagined of. He reminds me a lot of an entrepreneurial minded individual that sacrificies in the beginning for his dreams later. I think that’s also a part to his branding. I mean he’s actually a civic minded person. And to think they still didn’t exist.
His fashion is updated presidential. Like could you imagine what his chances would be if he wore a Steve Harvey suit (no knock on Steve Harvey suits). The clothing aspect plays a major role in his life as it does anyone else. It’s called the “Pschology of Clothing”. They have to wear a certain tie, mostly solid, basic watches, mostly leather bands, basic two button suit, mainly navy. I’m just saying wear joe dues, we get it!
Nice take Bespoke! Keep it coming…J…..see you at the top!

Good take. He’s cool like the star forward on your high school basketball team. He’s not even trying to be cool, he just is. Just watching him speak at the DNC, you can see how people are drawn to him and his message.
You know, it kind of reminds me of Regan. Star quality.
